Measuring often
enough used to be
too expensive.

That constraint moved. The reporting cycles it created did not.

When a person had to do the looking, the interval was set by what that person could sustain. It was the correct decision at the time and it is still in place nearly everywhere. What sits in the gap is the failure nobody could date, the cost nobody attributed, and the service whose value cannot be demonstrated to the person paying for it.

How It Shows Up

The numbers look fine.
The outcome does not match them.

"Under-sampled data does not go quiet. It gives you a confident, stable, plausible picture of something that is not happening."

It arrives in one of three ways.

The reporting is right and the result is not

Every figure is accurate and reviewed on schedule. The outcome keeps landing somewhere the reporting never indicated, and no single number was ever wrong enough to question.

Nobody can say when it started

Something failed. There is a date for when it was noticed and none for when it began, so the cost cannot be sized and the same thing cannot be caught earlier next time.

The value is real and cannot be shown

You deliver something that works and cannot evidence it to the person paying for it. This is the same fault seen from the supplier's side, and it is the widest and least obvious of the three.

All three are one fault. The interval between one look and the next is longer than the time the thing needs to go wrong in. Where that gap is wide, reporting stays correct and stops being useful, and nothing in the report says so.

A Defined Engagement

Monitoring Calibration

A structured review of three things set against each other: what you measure, how often somebody actually looks, and how fast each of those can move from healthy to costing you money. Side by side they show where the gap is wide. Approximately two weeks, fixed fee, and a written finding that can be circulated internally without further explanation.

What Happens Next

Finding the gap is one job.
Closing it is another.

A calibration answers a question. Some arrive already knowing the answer and needing something built, replaced, instrumented, or approached a different way. That is the work the finding points at, and it is not a separate business.

These are not four services to choose between. They are the ground the work is done on. Most engagements cross more than one, because a problem worth bringing here rarely sits cleanly inside a single discipline, and that is usually why it has not been solved yet.

Instead Of References

I would rather show you
something running.

Anyone can produce a reference letter. Very few can hand over a working system and say what it caught.

Sinclair Dynamics Solar Monitor watches six solar installations across several owners. I designed it, I built it, and I run it. It exists because I had been doing the same analysis by hand for years and concluded that the interval was the problem rather than the analysis. It is not what I sell. It is the method, running somewhere it can be inspected.

The reasoning is written down as well, at whatever length the argument needs. That is a slower way to be assessed than a list of qualifications, and a more useful one, because you can disagree with it.

Where To Start

You do not have to know
what is wrong yet.

There are two ways in. One is for a problem you can already describe. The other is for the sense that something is off without being able to say what it is. Both arrive in the same place, and neither of them costs anything to use.
